On Thursday October 30, 2025 at approximately 2340 hours, I, Deputy Furgerson was traveling south bound on Interstate 85 near mile marker 8.
During this time, I observed an SUV traveling north bound on Interstate 85 in the left lane where I visually estimated the vehicles speed at 100 mph. I then utilized my patrol vehicle radar unit and confirmed the vehicles speed at 101 mph in a posted 70 mph zone. As the vehicle began to approach my location, the vehicle changed from the left lane to the right lane where I then turned my patrol vehicle around through the median.
During this time, I initiated my emergency equipment and conducted a traffic on the vehicle, a black 2017 Ford Explorer bearing LA Tag: [REDACTED], on Interstate 85 NB near mile marker 10. Once the driver, later identified as Dontrell Boyd, brought the vehicle to a stop, I exited my patrol vehicle and made contact with him.
This traffic stop resulted in the driver being cited for 101 mph in a posted 70 mph zone. It also resulted in the rear seat passenger, later identified as Joshua Welch, being arrested for possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and VGCSA possession of a schedule II controlled substance.
